Maybe I'm the wrong person to ask about this because I had the hardest time in adjusting to "living indoors" as a domestic diva, short order chef, home administrator etc., standing, sitting, standing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is notable that people often comment on how much energy children have!  "If I had that much energy...." they go on to ponder wistfully.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let's observe childhood movement.  Ok, we may have to go back to yours and my childhood to make these observations about movement, since, in the digital age some children are not moving enough...but that is another blog entry for the future.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Children, through-out time have seemed to be in a constant state of motion.  That's why we need energy..."to chase them around!"  They bike ride, run, skip, play on the play ground, bounce off the walls inside, bounce on other things - beds, furniture - enjoy sports, play games that involve moving, run up and down the stairs with out thinking if they want to make the trip now or later...  you get the idea.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So- I have over the past many years found out how I can maintain a high energy level, by moving, too!  In spite of having to sit in the drivers seat for large chunks of time, sit at a desk, and stand, (still) doing laundry or cooking, hover about in the kitchen, eh-hem, restaurant in my home.  I hope you are laughing along with me!  I love my life, I'm just sayin'... ;-)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Learning from the children; something to try:&lt;br /&gt;Next time you are feeling an energy slump, instead of going for a Starbucks, try moving!  Energize your metabolism with a quick outdoor jaunt, jump on that treadmill and take if for a walk, or simply do 5 minutes of jumping jacks, mountain climbers, push ups and squats!  I gaurantee you'll be invigorated and more inclined to refresh yourself with some cold water than anything else. One remarkable element of much of Africa are the dramatic seasons, the rainy season and the dry season.  Here, they say the rainy season is 9 months of the year..oh sorry!  I got side tracked and thought we were talking about Seattle!&lt;br /&gt;When the rains come to the Kenyan plains, life is seemingly reborn.  Watering holes form and they are teaming with life!  So it is near most any body of water as you traverse the land.  Where there is water, there is life.&lt;br /&gt;The Earth's surface is roughly 70% water.&lt;br /&gt;Approximately 70% of an adult's body is made of water, too!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Drinking enough pure water is essential to good health.  Water carries nutrients into the cells.  It also helps mobilize fat for fuel in the body.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you are feeling thirsty, you have already lost over 1 percent of your total water!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Through the course of the night, our bodies dehydrate, water must be replenished upon waking for optimal body, brain, cell, function.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the fitness world a highly accepted method of calculating your daily water intake is to divide your weight in half and drink that many ounces of H2O a day.  Additionally, you should replace every cup of caffeinated beverages with an equal cup of good ol' water, since caffeine in a diuretic.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When to drink Water:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you wake up, try a tall glass or two of nice cold water.  You may not even need the coffee!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you are under stress, a glass of cold water is shown to help your brain balance stress hormones and bring calm to your senses.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you work out.  Two ounces for every 15 minutes of activity.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sip through out the day.  Make it easy by taking water with you where ever you go in a reusable container and keep some pure water in the fridge at home for a nice cold drink!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Drink water when you think you might be hungry, but might just be bored, stressed, distracted, or a number of other factors that have led you to eat outside of physical hunger in the past.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Raise a glass and enjoy this great health concoction! That goes for a fitness program, too!  Statistics show that AM exercisers are many times more likely to stick with a work out program, lose weight or be able to maintain their ideal body weight.  Just think about it?  The things you do first...get done :)&lt;br /&gt;So if being well is one of your objectives, get out there and get it done!&lt;br /&gt;Enjoy your body, it carries you where you want to go.  Take care of your body and it will be a prosperity to you through your whole life!  Love your body because God loves your body! Ok, to be fair to the real "runners", my run is more like a jog.  At any rate, the atomic clock and weather center read that it was frosty and about 34 degrees.  Didn't look like I was going out after all, too cold!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;However, after a little morning fuel and reading the blue sky was calling and soon the sun would be coming up to warm the day.  I had to go out, for not all days in Seattle are sunny.  I bundled up, with scarf and gloves woke the dog and headed out.  It was cold for a little while. But as I traversed the neighborhood I realized what a wonderful way to start the day!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My soul was awakened to the wonderful world and day God had made!  I thanked Him for the sunshine, good for the soul and pleasing to the eyes (Eccl. somewhere).  I prayed in the spirit and spread peace in the streets in which we dwell.  The work before me was able to be presented to the Lord.  I could trust Him with my day, my work, and rest that He would guide my way.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes, this is a personal idea, but not original for sure!  David in the psalms talks about greeting the day and rising before the sun.  Today I got to enjoy the earth God made for me, the sun He sent to give me some sunny D, and the connectedness of life, held together in Him!  May that sense continue through my day and yours! The industrialization of our food supply dating back to the first half of the 20th century made bringing dinner to the table much easier, but through the years the result has been a steady decline in the real amount of nutrition found in our most common foods and as a result, a sicker and more obese population.&lt;br /&gt;Let's take a prime example with "enriched wheat flour".  What is it?  Wheat, right?  Well, it &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;was &lt;/span&gt;wheat once!  The process it has undergone has stripped it of fiber, natural oils in the germ - the life producing element - and then it has been cleansed of all 11 vitamins and minerals, 4 of which in a synthetic form were "added" back, thus the term "enriched".  Enriched wheat flour is not whole wheat flour.  Furthermore, the way the body handles flour like this is pretty much the same as it handles sugar.  It raises the blood glucose levels rapidly and when there is too much present at one time in the body, whatever can't be used immediately is stored as glycogen or as fat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;10 Tips to Eat Clean:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Buy fewer items in bags and boxes.&lt;br /&gt;Shop the bulk food/natural section for whole grains like brown rice and rolled oats.&lt;br /&gt;Avoid products containing High Fructose Corn Syrup or Partially Hydrogenated Oils&lt;br /&gt;Read Ingredient Labels!  Are the ingredients ones you know?&lt;br /&gt;Eat whole grains like brown rice.  Cook a big pot on Sunday and use through the week.&lt;br /&gt;Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, 5-7 servings a day for women and children, 7-9 for men.&lt;br /&gt;Use herbs and seasonings!  They taste great and have great health benefits, too.&lt;br /&gt;Avoid processed meat products.  The name says it all, "meat product", it's not real meat!&lt;br /&gt;Avoid added sugar.  Go for cereals and snacks with less than 10 grams of sugar per serving.&lt;br /&gt;Shop the perimeter of the grocery market.
